Cost Engineer

  • Receive, evaluate, and prioritize requests for quotations
  • Review part databases to determine tool ability and mold ability and provide feedback to the customer.
  • Select appropriate team to create quotation, and facilitate the entire quotation process
  • Calculate part weights, cycle time, scrap, and other Injection Molding parameters to establish piece part cost and price, using established machine and labor rates.  Recommend appropriate materials for the customer application, as needed.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering to determine assembly process flows, cycle times, scrap, and other manufacturing parameters to establish assembly cost and price, using established machine and labor rate
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing/Automation Engineers to establish costs for equipment / automation, and engineering time to reach milestones
  • Schedule and lead Quote Review meetings after all quotations are proofed for accuracy, consistency, and conciseness; and prior to issuance to the customer
  • Provide accurate and timely transfer of information between Customer Service, Marketing and Sales and external customers
  • Function as the subject matter expert in costing estimating and pricing proposal development, with deep understanding of the cost estimating model and knowledge in development of machine, labor, and floor space rates 
  • Orient new engineers/manufacturing personnel in quoting process
  • Support Project Engineers, Program Managers and other staff with information pertaining to pricing strategies and/or risk analysis
  • Participate in facility Cost Study and Account Review Teams
  • Extended travel to other facilities may be required to support business needs
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Safety/Environmental:

- Where applicable, individual is pre-planning safety into work activities to improve performance
- Proactively identifies safety concerns
- Complies with Environmental Management System program SOP’s/WI, Policy & Program elements and encourages responsible use of resources

  • Actively participate in continual improvement/innovation, corrective action and internal/external customer satisfaction
  • Completion of one of the following:

- Submission of a continuous improvement idea
- Active participation in a Phillips-Medisize sponsored committee or event
* Examples include a - Rapid Improvement Event, a 5S/Lean event, Safety
    Committee, Wellness Committee, Recycling Committee, Activity Committee, or
    other Phillips-Medisize sponsored community outreach project/event (United
    Way, Junior Achievement, etc.)

Qualifications - Education & Experience

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or Finance/Accounting or equivalent education/experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years of technical experience in the injection molding industry with good working knowledge of tooling, processing manufacturing and/or design

Qualifications - Skills & Competencies

  • Must be able to represent the Facility in a competent and professional manner with all people, especially external customers
  • Understanding of polymer processing, common secondary operations, and assembly methods
  • Working knowledge of engineering and manufacturing economics
  • Sound general understanding of business finance
  • Excellent skills in verbal communication, written documentation, and proposal development
  • Must be able to accurately and efficiently use CAD systems for file transfers, viewing and analysis
